Physician Biographies

Joy Anderson, MD

Dr. Joy Anderson provides obstetric and gynecologic care to women of all ages, with a special interest in adolescent gynecology. A graduate of the University of Texas School of Medicine, Dr. Anderson completed her residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the Medical College of Wisconsin. During her residency, she earned several teaching awards from the medical students she worked with. She is also a member of Alpha Omega Alpha, a medical honor society. Dr. Anderson has also conducted numerous lectures, including “Cytotec in Gynecology” and “Radiation in Pregnancy”.

James P. Beckner, MD

Specializing and Board Certified in OB-GYN medicine, Dr. James Beckner provides superior care to women of all ages for their Gynecological and Obstetrical needs with interests encompassing urogynecology, infertility, polycystic ovarian syndrome and high-risk pregnancies.
Receiving his licensure for the Practice of Medicine and Surgery from West Virginia University School of Medicine, Dr. James Beckner is part of the team of licensed and certified doctors at Holston Valley Specialty OB-GYN. Dr. Beckner is a Fellow in both the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Tennessee Medical Association. Dr. James Beckner is affiliated with the American Medical Association and continues research for pregnancy-related health issues.

Robert D. Saunders, MD, FACOG

Certified by the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Robert Saunders brings over a decade of expertise to Holston Valley Specialty OB-GYN. Being actively involved with Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital, Dr. Saunders served as Department Chairman at Wellmont Holston Valley Hospital from 2000 to 2005. In addition, Dr. Saunders belongs to several professional medical organizations such as the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology and the Tennessee Medical Association.

Tammy DeBord Baird, RNC, MSN WHNP-C

Certified as a Women’s Healthcare Nurse Practitioner and Inpatient Obstetrics since 1997, Tammy DeBord Baird provides excellent women’s healthcare to patients of Holston Valley Specialty OB-GYN. Baird is an Education Affiliate with the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and received several awards and recognitions including an award in leadership from the Nursing Alumni Association and recognition as part of the Outstanding Young Women of Kentucky.

Tammy DeBord Baird is also certified by the Esthetic Skin Institute of Ft. Lauderdale, FL to provide Botox® and Restalyn® injections. In addition to being active in many professional medical organizations, Baird is currently on the Hawkins County School Board and a Board Member for the Tennessee Unemployment Compensations Trust in Nashville, TN

Donna McDonald, APN, CNM

Tammy DeBord Donna McDonald is an Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner. She is certified by the American College of Nurse-Midwives. Ms. McDonald brings more than 10 years of experience to her role with Holston Valley Specialty OB/GYN.
She provides comprehensive obstetric and gynecological care to women of all ages. Ms. McDonald also sees patients at Jonesborough Medical Associates.
